2010 Meeting Report:

The Mathematics Section of TAS had a small number of presenters at the annual meeting in March in Stephenville, but the number of members attending the presentations filled the room.  The audience posed several questions after each presentation and we enjoyed seeing such wonderful interest and participation.  Our hope remains that the Section can gain more presenters next year and thus we send out an appeal to all TAS members to spread the word to the Mathematics Departments of their respective universities.

Stacy Lee and Lewis Nichols shared the Best Abstract Award.  Stacy, an undergraduate student from Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas, gave a presentation entitled “Fibonacci Cycles Mod P.”  Lewis, a graduate student from the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas, presented "Path Planning Using Particle Swarm Optimization.”

Stacy Lee also received the Ali Amir-Moez Award.  As a mathematics major, Stacy currently seeks secondary certification.  Her hobbies include making jewelry, scrapbooking, and playing the flute.  When she is not solving mathematics problems, she can be found actively involved in any of these pastimes.  Stacy is engaged to Jason Strickland, a biology major from ASU and also a member of TAS.
